Persuasive Writing

We have been doing practise persuasive pieces leading us to Easttle writing, we had to do 2 pieces of writing one about should children have homework and for the second one we got the choice out of should animals be in a circus or zoo.

Should children have homework? I strongly believe that children shouldn’t have homework. I have several reasons to believe that it can have an impact on people's mental health and wellbeing, after school is time for social life and we already learn enough at school!

My first reason is it can have a big impact on people’s mental health and well being, some people have enough weight on their shoulders adding all of the hard maths equations and reading tasks will make them feel trapped and ruin their wellbeing.

My second reason is that I think that after school is for social lifes and people could have sports opportunities. Sometimes people won't be able to make opportunities in their life for the sake of having to do homework.

School goes for 5 hours and 45 minutes, we learn maths, reading and writing. Homework can waste a lot of your free time when you already learn enough at school and online.

To sum up all of our reasons we think that children shouldn't have homework because it effects their wellbeing and after school is for social time. I hope you agree with us!

Memory Poem

Remember

Walking across the Nelson beach

Making indents in the sand

The cold water creeping up against your feet

Bright moon light beaming onto your body

Cold breezes whirling and whistling around you

That was Summer

For writing we are making a poetry anthology which is where we have to write several poems and put them onto a slide. For this poem we had to remember a time and write about it with adjectives.

Descriptive Writing

The scorching tropical sun beaming above me, my back burning while sunbathing on the shore. I decide to get up and have a walk on the waterfront making the cool breeze clash against me. I take a gulp of my ice cold cup of water, chills force down my body. Gliding through the deep blue ocean I feel fish rushing across my feet, it tickles.

For writing this week Miss Power showed T1 a piece of writing from one of her students a few years back. We had to do a descriptive piece based on the picture her old student had done. Here is my descriptive writing

Letter to Son

 Dustin

Peninsula

Saturday 23rd September 1916,

Dear Malcolm,

Hope you are doing well and taking care of your mother. I can't stand a day without thinking of you! I have a few wounds but they’re not too bad. I hope you’re doing good in school and getting top marks in your tests.

Love you son goodbye for now.

For reading we have being a lot of stuff based around ANZAC, one of our tasks we had to do was writing a letter to someone in the war or someone from home. For my writing I was being a dad from war writing to my son.

Fish in a Tree - characters

Which character would you most like to know more about?
I admire Mr Daniel’s because he has a big heart he doesn't judge anyone and shows a lot of kindness towards his students. He speaks from the heart, all the advice he has been giving Ally has been heartfelt.

I dislike Shay and Jessica because they bully Ally and tease her about the littlest things. Jessica copies Ally with everything she does, like she even chose the same ice cream flavour as Shay.

I would most likely be friends with Ally, I would stand up for her towards her bullies and make sure she she feels good about herself, I would also like to help her read or tell someone about her problems.

I would like to know more about Mr Daniels and learn about why he is so kind and friendly, we also don't know much about him so I would like to know more about his past.

Quite a while ago while we were in the library with Mrs Costello she read us a few chapters of the book Fish in a tree, Miss Power set up a google drawing which had questions on it and we had to choose characters from the book and write a few sentences on them.

Attracting Bee's

For reading we are leaning about bees we have learn, create and share tasks. For a create task we have to put something in our school garden to attract bees. Indie, Milan O, Pyper and I made this drawing to show our plans of trying to attract bees!

Report Writing - Mexico

Mexico

Mexico is officially the United Mexican States and it is in the southern portion of North America. Mexico have varieties of there common food which most are created around beans, corn and chilli peppers but the most popular ingredients that Mexicans tend to use are beans, rice, avocado and limes. In Mexico many people also love to play football.

 Food
Mexicans have varieties of different dishes and some of them look very appetizing! Mexicans dishes are rich with healthy ingredients such as avocado, beans, limes, tomatoes and savoury meats which is good for your body because it gives you protein and minerals. Mexicans also present their cultural food very elegantly.

 Football
Mexico’s national sport is football also known as soccer. Football was brought into Mexico by the British who founded the Orizaba Athletic Club in 1898. Carlos Vela was 1 of the best players in Mexico a few years back, he was named MVP and won the golden boot with a famous amount of goals scored in a single season.

 Population and language
Mexico was founded by a Spain man named Hernán Cortés on the 16th of September 1810. The population went pretty high in 2019 at 127.6 million when you compare that to New Zealand that is massive! The official language of Mexico is Spanish which is spoken by 90 percent of the people.

In conclusion you can see Mexico has a lot of appetizing food, a massive population, most people speak spanish and english and they love there football!

For writing lately we have been writing reports. We got to choose what we wanted to write about so I choose Mexico. Trying to think what to write per paragraph was hard, here is my report on Mexico!

Fish in a Tree - letter to Ally

 Ally

Pump School,

U10 AUS

Tuesday 2nd March

Dear Mr Daniels,

I'm sorry I may not have shown this but I am super grateful and happy to have you as my teacher. I know we see eachother everyday but I didn’t have the nerve to come up and say this to you. For the past few months my reading has been really poor, all the words jump around the page which makes it very difficult. Once again thank you for believing in me.

Yours sincerely

Ally Nickerson

We are still reading the book Fish in a Tree in class, today our activity was to be a character and write to another character in the book. I was being Ally and writing to her teacher Mr Daniels.

Letter to Ally - Fish in a Tree

In the book Fish in a Tree it talks about Ally's reading problem, our task was to write Ally a letter about how to make it easier for her to tell someone.

Dear Ally

I heard about your up ands down you’ve been having at school.  Dig deep and find the courage to tell Mr Daniels about your reading problems, he may be able to help you.

Everybody makes mistakes so dont be so hard on yourself.

Find someone you can trust to tell someone about youre problems it would make school and life 100 % better.

Allys Avatar - Fish in a Tree

As a class we have been reading the book Fish in a Tree, one of our activities was to describe Ally and how she may be feeling. This is how I think Ally may feel.
